Whirlpool 4396014 29-Inch to 50-Inch Vent Periscope

Good fix to gain a few inches
Purchased a new dryer and discovered it was about an inch too long and wouldnt allow me to close the door in my washer/dryer room. I purchased this item and am very pleased...it gave me two inches less, and now I can close the door. When you receive this, read the directions and dont try to assemble it first. There is a method to putting this together and it works. Also, once assembled (prior to attaching it to the dryer) you may want to tape around the edges of the four supplied metal extensions with duct tape for a sturdier and more efficient exhaust.

Pros: It will extend above the dryer, the extensions on each end are great as it fit right into the exhaust pipe and was easily tightened with the provided clasp.

Cons: Not exactly the most sturdy metal material, very flexible, be careful not to bend it.

Great way to gain some extra space, but pick up some tape...
I wanted to gain some storage space in the laundry room, so I recently stacked the washer and dryer. I needed to get everything as close to the wall as possible in order to have clearance from a door that opens into the room, so I picked up this periscope style vent.

After looking at the vent, I realized that I would need some tape to prevent a good bit of air leakage. Headed to (rhymes with bows) to get some high-temperature duct tape and ended up finding a no-name periscope vent for about half the price. Ultimately I picked it up and sent this one back to Amazon due to the price difference. The whirlpool was a bit better in terms of overall build quality, but they both needed some serious tape to seal them.

I taped the inside and outside of any leaky areas, and feel like I got a pretty good seal in the end. The installation process is straightforward, but not as easy as the flexible vent. Make sure you have the periscope extended to the right length...

Awesome!
It's take a little tweaking to get the fit just right, but I can say that this helped make the dryer install as 'low profile' as possible without worrying about crushing/kinking the dryer hose. I highly recommend this product - so simple and so worth it!

My main concern was that the sliding element wouldn't be air tight, thus allowing lint to endlessly line my laundry room. I've checked repeatedly over the first few months and can't find any evidence of leaking.
