More positives than negatives
Positives: it does what it says it will do; you can set the humidity level you want (not just high or low, like some units); it's relatively quiet (see below); it resets itself to your settings after a power outage (or if you move it from one power outlet in your home to another one).
Negatives: the bucket is very poorly designed -- it does not slide in and out smoothly; it fills almost to the very top, so spillage is a concern; it doesn't have any sort of pour spout, so you can't use the water to water your plants or anything like that, because the water just pours out over the sides and makes a big mess. The other negative is the noise level. I've only had this unit a little over a month, but it already has developed a vibration, which causes it to be fairly noisy. If I give it a good slap on the side, that usually solves the problem, but I'm wondering how much worse it's going to get over time.
All in all, for what I paid for this unit (under $200), it serves the purpose.
Works well!
I read both the good and bad reviews and thought this was a good middle of the road purchase for what I needed. I have been very pleased. I bought another dehumidifier that was bigger and more expensive, and am not nearly as pleased with it. I have a LARGE musty basement in an old building I bought, and this thing has been running pretty much 24/7 for several weeks and runs fine, still draws water out of the air to the point of filling itself at least once a day so it turns off and I have to dump it. It does have a place to connect a hose for continuous dumping, but I have not had time to tinker with that yet. However, based on all the reviews I had read, I am very happy with this product.
Used in home observatory so telescope lenses and mirrors stay dry
We have a home observatory with some pricey equipment in it. So far it works well and maintains 10 square feet. Little cup fills up fast but we are plumbing it with hoses. Humidistat seems accurate when compared with data logger.
